Whole Wheat Bread

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup plus 1 Tbsp. honey
  • 2 cups very warm water
  • 2 Tbsp. yeast
  • 5 - 6 cups whole wheat flour
  • 2 Tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup powdered milk
  • 1/3 cup oil

    Directions:

    Dissolve 1 Tbsp honey in the 2 cups of water. Add yeast. Let stand.

    In bowl, place 4 cups flour, powdered milk, and salt. Stir in yeast mixture and rest of honey. Stir till mixed. Stir the rest of the flour, 1/2 cup at a time till mixture forms ball. (do not add too much flour) Knead for 1 minute. Place in a greased bowl turning to grease top. Cover, let rise in warm place, free from draft, until doubled in bulk, about 1 hour.

    Punch down and divide in half. Knead for 1 minute. Shape into loafs. Place in greased bread pan. Cover, let rise in warm place, free from draft until doubled in bulk, about 1 hour.

    Bake at 350 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes. Remove from pans immediately. Brush tops with butter. Cool on wire racks.
